York Museum Trust Stone Technical Services works extensively across Yorkshire and especially in the York area which is home to some of the most stunning ancient buildings and architecture.

Our specialist teams repair and preserve popular historic buildings throughout the city and to date we have worked on a variety of galleries, churches and boundary walls for the York Museum Trust and the National Trust carrying out surveys, reports and repairs to protect them from potential damage and maintain them for future generations to enjoy.



St Marie's Cathedral, Sheffield

St Marie's Cathedral, Sheffield St Marie's Cathedral is located in the heart of Sheffield city centre and is visitors by thousands of people every year.

St Marie's dates back to the 1800s and required careful and sensitive restoration due to the nature of the building and its cultural heritage.

Stone Technical Services worked with architects Buttress Fuller Alsop Williams in Manchester to complete a high level survey of the cathedral's historic masonry



St Paul's Cathedral

St Paul's Cathedral Stone Technical Service is one of very few companies approved to work on the iconic St Paul's Cathedral as an officially-appointed contractor responsible for all structural and high level maintenance repairs and lightning conductor installation.

Stone Technical Services’ specialist heritage engineers carry out a range of conservation works to ensure that St Paul’s Cathedral remains one of the most treasured and visited attractions in the UK.



St.Andrews Cemetery, Hexham

St. Andrews Cemetery Hexham Stone Refurbishment has recently completed a £50,000 project for Hexham Council and architects, Crawford Higgins, at St Andrew's Cemetery in Hexham.

St Andrew's Cemetery dates back to 1859 when there were originally two chapels, one for burial services under the established Church of England, the other for other religions. Now only one Chapel is used for burial services. In 1972, the cemetery was extended when extra land was acquired by Hexham Council.

The project completed by Stone Refurbishment was a major maintenance project consisting of masonry renewals, the rebuild, indents and stainless steel strengthening of the two gatehouses and two spires at the cemetery.

Lindisfarne, Northumberland

 Improvement and preservation works as well as a maintenance survey for the National Trust to allow for a budgeted program of works to cost effectively deal with the external envelope and masonry, built on whinstone rock.

Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle

 working with Newcastle City Council, Stone completed a range of repairs at the gallery, which dates back to 1901 and is home to a large collection of art and sculpture, including a full site roof survey to assess the long term maintenance requirements, repairs due to water-logging, rope access to remove vegetation from the dome, renewal of side door to provide access for large exhibits and protective netting for loose masonry which is also being restored.

Sutton Bridge, North Yorkshire

 Stone was praised for its efficient completion of repairs to the bridge, which links the towns of Elvington in North Yorkshire and Sutton-on-Derwent in East Riding and had to be completed during a 21-day bridge closure period to minimise disruption for local people. The Grade II listed bridge was damaged early in 2010 following a road accident and, at the time, Stone carried out emergency repairs to make the bridge safe. Centenary Mill, Preston

 Stone’s conservation team carried out a major project on the mill which dates back to the 1890s. The old mill, which has been turned into exclusive apartments, was built to mark 100 years of cotton manufacture in Preston. The Grade II listed building needed chimney strengthening works, stainless-steel brick stitching, a rebuild of the upper apex and a new capping section, all of which was completed by Stone.

Hurworth, Darlington

 Stone worked alongside property consultants Close Grainger Gray and Wilkin, based in Guisborough, to demolish the boundary wall and build a conservation wall including some bespoke renewals of matching bricks and lime mortar re-pointing at a property on The Green.

Hexham Abbey, Northumberland

 the ancient abbey dates back to around 1100 and Stone carried out decoration repair work to the iron sections of the abbey’s stained glass windows.
