More industrial work helps high flying Stone

Stone Technical Services has secured several new industrial contracts, worth in the region of £35,000, as it continues to grow rapidly in the sector around the UK.

The high level maintenance company, based in Darlington, is installing specialist lightning protection for GE Aviation in Gloucester on their avionics test room, which is used to test electronic parts to be used on aircrafts. GE Aviation runs specialist overhaul and repair facilities in Cardiff and Prestwick and also manufactures key avionic systems with eleven manufacturing sites in the UK employing over 5,000 people.

On Teesside, Stone is working for Ensus at Wilton, near Redcar, carrying out safety works on cable bridges and has also recently been highly commended for its proactive approach to safety while completing a contract at Teesside Power Station. Here, Stone carried out safety works, rigging a rope access system during which the team also worked to remove falling hazards.

Stone works extensively in the industrial sector, continually securing more contracts to help with its UK-wide growth. Other projects carried out to date include major chimney stack shutdowns for SRM in Sunderland, erection of fabricated chimney stacks for TYK in Chilton, County Durham, projects for INEOS Plant Utilities and Cummins and ongoing contracts with Teesside Power Station.

Stone now employs a team of 26 at its headquarters in Darlington and also in Middlesex. The company plans to continually grow its workforce and open new regional offices throughout 2010 as well as increase its £2 million turnover by 25%.

Stone specialises in all aspects of high level maintenance, lightning conductor installation and steeplejack services as well as restoration and masonry refurbishment projects on churches, museums, clock towers, castles, spires and historic buildings.

The company works all over the UK on a variety of high profile buildings such as St Paul’s Cathedral and Selfridges in London and for organisations such as English Heritage and the National Trust.

Managing director, Dave Stone said: “We are fast becoming recognised as a UK leader in the field of industrial high level maintenance and safety. This is largely thanks to our vastly skilled team who have worked extensively on industrial projects in the North East over the years. We have an excellent reputation with regard to safety, an area in which we invest a lot of time and training as we work for many global companies who employ thousands of people.”
