Stone’s training on the right track

As Darlington-based Stone Technical Services continues to grow and enter new markets, managers have invested in sector-specific training programmes to ensure their staff are leaders in the field of safety.

A number of Stone’s on-site team of specialist engineers and technicians have recently completed the in-depth Personal Track Safety (PTS) training at Railtrack in Wimbledon. The training is compulsory for anyone working trackside on the Network Rail infrastructure and equips all workers with the necessary track safety knowledge, relevant local regulations specific to certain UK location and safe working practices.

Stone Technical Services’ specialist engineers provide a variety of safety solutions including fall arrest systems, harnesses and lanyards, rope access and tailor-made systems.

Stone works extensively with companies carrying out work on the country’s railways and has completed a number of safety-related projects for First Capital Connect in Bedford and for C U Phosco, a lighting company at Wimbledon station.

Stone now employs a team of 27 at its headquarters in Darlington and also in the City of London and in Middlesex. The company plans to continually grow its workforce and open new regional offices throughout 2011.

As well as safety systems, Stone specialises in all aspects of high level maintenance, lightning conductor installation and steeplejack services as well as restoration and masonry refurbishment projects on churches, museums, clock towers, castles, spires and historic buildings.

The company works all over the UK on a variety of high profile buildings such as St Paul’s Cathedral and Selfridges in London and for organisations such as English Heritage and the National Trust as well as for well known industrial clients such as INEOS Plant Utilities and Teesside Power Station.

Managing director, Dave Stone said: We pride ourselves on being the market leaders in the manufacture and supply of safety systems, offering unrivalled levels of protection. Stone designs, installs and maintains any aspects of fall arrest system exceeding all statutory requirements. Ensuring our staff are at the forefront of developments in their sector is a top priority and this recent investment in training is allowing us to enter new markets, providing customers with the ultimate safety package.”
